Dream come true for gadget geeks

The dream of combining a smartphone with PlayStation Portable (PSP) capabilities is now a reality.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is a great Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) smartphone with a 5.1-megapixel camera, 4-inch touch screen and provides an array of Android applications for your daily work functions.

But slide out the gaming pad with its PSP-like buttons, and Play immediately transforms into a PSP! Powered by a 1GHz processor with embedded graphics processor, it delivers 60 frames per second playback on its 480 x 854 screen. It even comes pre-loaded with six games such as FIFA 10 and Sims 3, so you can start playing right out of the box!

A brief hands-on with Play elicits all the positive vibes as it does when cradling a PSP. Unfortunately, you have to wait till the second quarter (Q2) of this year to get your hands on it here.

The latest Sony Ericsson Gingerbread smartphones, Arc and Neo, will be made available in this quarter and Q2 2011 respectively. Prices will be revealed at a later date. Trevor Tan
