Olympus PEN E-PL2
THE E-PL2, successor to the E-PL1, has a new Live Guide, an enhanced version of the Live Guide interface featured in the E-PL1.
The user is able to manipulate settings like image brightness, background, hue, etc, via an onscreen interface and the camera’s dial. Live Guide works for both pictures and movies.
There are new Art Filters for creative picture composition and the Eye detect function improves the effectiveness of Face Detection by focusing on a subject’s eyes.
The questions that will be asked are: Does the E-PL2 take better pictures than its predecessor? And is it faster too?
In terms of sharpness and colour balance, E-PL2’s pictures are as good as, if not better than, those of equivalent Micro Four Thirds cameras.
Speed-wise, the limitation of not being able to quickly take a series of pictures indoors (which requires use of the built-inflash), largely remains.
Flash charge-up time seems to have improved but a pause in taking successive shots is still required. This impediment, if one can call it that, can be resolved by using an external mounted flash. But that would prevent
the use of an electronic viewfinder at the same time, as there is only a single accessory port.
How much: To be announced. Available in black, champagne gold, red and white
