When it comes to convergence, the D-Link Xtreme N DIR-685 certainly lives up to its name. This high-end wireless home network router sports the 802.11n standard and dual USB ports to connect printers and external hard drives.
Mount a 2.5-inch SATA drive to its side, and the DIR-685 doubles as a network-attached storage (NAS) device with its own built-in FTP server, allowing users to access documents, photos, music and other media locally through the home network or remotely across the Internet.
The vibrant 3.2-inch, 1.6-million-colour LCD screen not only displays device status via graphical gauges but also serves as a photo frame for digital pictures - including those on sites like Facebook and Flickr - and other live streaming Internet content like news, weather and financial data.
Other features include a WiFi Schedule that can be programmed to turn off the router's WiFi module at a pre-set time, and a power adapter that complies with Energy Star specifications and saves up to 30 per cent electricity consumption.
