Canon’s high-speed compact
BY YEONG AH SENG

SALES of digital SLRs have been growing, largely because users prefer their speed and versatility.

Compact cameras are beginning to catch up.

Canon’s latest compact digital, the Ixus 300 HS, is the first to feature high-speed image capture of 8.4 frames per second (fps) and super slow-motion video recording (240fps, eight times faster than the rate of conventional video recording). At full 10-megapixel resolution, it can shoot at 3.7fps.

This Ixus is built for use in poor lighting, supporting a maximum ISO of 3200 or 6400 (at 2.5-megapixel resolution) in low-light mode. An f/2.0 28- 105mm lens with 3.8x optical zoom is provided.

It has a 3-inch wide-viewing LCD and supports SDXC memorycards, which can store up to2TB of data. This is one powerhousecompact and it could be aharbinger of things to come.

How much: $599
