The 14.2-megapixel Alpha SLT-A33 is one of Sony's first digital cameras to employ Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT). TMT uses a fixed translucent mirror that splits the light to enter the image sensor and a separate phase-detection autofocus (AF) sensor simultaneously.
Thus, the SLT-A33 can achieve fast and accurate auto-focusing even when you are shooting via its multi-angle swing and 3-inch tiltable display. With its 15-point phase detection AF system, moving subjects stay in focus at all times, whether you are capturing full HD (1080i) videos or still images. Most conventional DSLR cameras tend to search for focus when shooting in Live View without a separate phase-detection AF sensor.
Seasoned videographers will be delighted to know that they can also shoot video via the optical viewfinder. In contrast, conventional DSLR cameras cannot do that as the raised mirror prevents light from entering the optical viewfinder during video recording.
In addition, TMT helps to simplify the mechanical design of the DSLR, decreasing the size and complexity of the camera and making it easier for road warriors to lug the device around.
