The 12.3-megapixel Nikon D5000's most distinct feature has to be its vari-angle 2.7-inch LCD screen that can be turned and twisted. Whether you are shooting above the crowd to get a wide shot or taking a close-up picture of your sleeping cat at ground level, you can easily turn the screen to get your vantage point.

You can even close the screen to protect it from your oily nose while you shoot through the viewfinder. With this dexterous screen, you don't need dual LCD screens; simply reverse the screen to take a beautiful self-portrait.

Thanks to the 19 scene modes in the D5000, you don't really need to know much about digital photography. You just need to turn the dial to the appropriate scene and the camera will do the rest when you release the shutter.

Even if you get it wrong, there are plenty of built-in editing functions that allow you to edit the photos and create fancy effects.
