The Canon EOS 550D DSLR gives you sharp still photographs with maximum creative control.

The 1.6 crop factor here means that you get that much more zoom for your buck on the telephoto end of your lenses' focal-length spectrums.

For instance, the purchase-with-purchase EF S55-250 IS lens would have an effective focal range of 88-400mm (on a 35mm film equivalent).

What really sets the EOS 550D apart, however, is its ability to capture those moments that cannot be fully replicated through still photographs alone - this shooter also records full HD 1920x1080 videos at up to 30 frames per second, a feature Canon claims is a first for DSLRs in its class.

Your videos can be viewed in high resolution with the built-in HDMI terminal. When connected to an HDTV, image resolution is automatically configured to be a best fit for the display.

The 550D's 18-megapixel CMOS sensor means you can print stunning 12x18-inch images at a sharp 300 pixels-per-inch.

A flexible ISO speed setting - from ISO 100 to 3,200, and expandable to 6,400 and 12,800 - lets you adjust the camera's sensitivity to light so you are not limited to wide-open apertures and long shutter speeds in low-light indoor environments, or the opposite during broad daylight.

Other Canon cutting-edge technologies onboard include a DIGIC 4 image processor, 9-point auto-focus system and a 63 dual zone layer metering sensor (also found in the higher-end EOS 7D).
