The Portege R700's light yet durable magnesium alloy chasis is reinforced with a "honeycomb structure", which Toshiba says is used inside the carbon fibre components of a Formula 1 racer. This gives the 13.3-inch notebook increased rigidity without adding unnecessary weight: This metallic wonder weighs just 1.39kg.

Housed within the 19mm-thin exterior is a Core i3-350M processor that goes on a Mobile Intel HM55 Express chipset.

It features Intel's 10/100/1000 MAC Gigabit Ethernet, HD audio, HDMI support, and anti-theft technology that blocks the operating system from loading, or disables access to valuable data on the hard drive.

Airflow Cooling technology uses strong jets of air to cool the heat-generating components.

Combined with an efficient, mercury-free LED backlit display, the R700 promises performance with a lower power consumption, translating to a longer battery life for productivity on the go.

The laptop has three USB2.0 ports, an eSATA/USB combo port with sleep-and-charge functionality, a large multi-touch pad, and Toshiba EasyGuard technology - a set of hardware and software enhancements that protect the notebook from jolts, spills and theft.

Never worry about security breaches with a fingerprint sensor for authentication, or wonder if your data is safe when you drop the R700 - a 3D sensor protects the hard disk from shock.
