For the record, the Sennheiser Amperior provides a great sound and is comfortable enough for hours of turntable slinging

That is not to say the rest of us cannot enjoy the Amperior, since it boasts audio quality befitting the Sennheiser pedigree. The Amperior handles multiple genres with aplomb, and its strength lies in how it handles instruments that are full-bodied and strong.
If I had to nitpick, I would say the well-defined bass could be more impactful, and, at times, the treble reached piercing levels.
The Amperior are supraaural headphones that rest on top of your ears rather than cup them.
The velour ear cups of the Amperior and light yet firm clamping force of the headband mean that wearing the Amperior for long periods is comfortable. Noise isolation on the Amperior is also fantastic - whether in or out of doors.
The Amperior comes with a 3.5mm plug that is compatible with most audio devices including Apple's latest iPhone 5 but, as the Amperior jack is too large for iPhone cases, you would need an optional cable with a thinner plug and inline remote to control your music playback.
However, attaching the optional cable means almost doubling the cable length - I had to use cable ties to shorten it just to bring the remote within voice range.
Sennheiser claims the Amperior is DJ inspired, and it shows. From its rotatable left ear cup for single-ear listening or the adjustable headband to ensure that the headphones stay on for all those hours of record-slinging.
There is no denying the Amperior's aural superiority but unless you are an amateur turntablist, this might not be the perfect choice for you.
The Amperior comes in blue and silver, and retails at S$499 at all official Sennheiser dealers. ALVIN CHONG
